Carbon Market - Expo Summary

Delegates from Queensland Laboratory attended the Australasian Carbon Market Expo on the 3oth and 31st of October. The event was held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and attracted close to 1000 delegates from over 24 countries. The main focus of the expo was looking at the carbon offsetting in developing countries under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Presentations from a number of key industry representatives outlined how projects are evolving and how the CDM enables companies from Annex B countries to generate profit within Annex 1 countries that have signed the Kyoto Proticol.

It was estimated that approximately 11 Trillion dollars of investement is required in order to successfully offset the carbon emissions from developing countries, most of which will have to come from private investement.
